Abstract
In such common conditions as diabetes, ischemic heart disease, and schizophrenia, a genetic component has long been suspected, though its operations do not square with those of any simple form of inheritance. However, mathematical models based on the assumption of multifactorial genetic-environmental causation generate predictions that correspond to actual incidence patterns in many such diseases. Keywords
