Abstract
A possible definition of an H function which is appropriate to describe weak turbulence in plasmas is introduced in terms of a probability introduced in the functional space spanned by instantaneous solutions of the Vlasov equation. The main point in an introduction of this function is to use an approximate probability. The nature of the H function thus defined is similar to that introduced by Boltzmann in kinetic theory. The time rate of change of the H function is computed and it is shown that the rate of change is negative for a weakly turbulent plasma and is zero for a stable plasma. Keywords
