Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae AB infection in calves

Abstract
Extract Leptospirosis of calves caused by infection with Leptospira pomona, and commonly known as “redwater”, has been recognized in New Zealand for the past decade (N.Z. Dept. Agric., 1951 N.Z. Dept. of Agriculture. 1951. Annual Report, 1950–51 28–28. [Google Scholar] ). The same organism has since been detected in adult cows, in which it can cause abortion (Te Punga and Bishop, 1953 Te Punga, W. A. and Bishop, W. H. 1953. N.Z. vet. J., 1: 143–143. [Taylor & Francis Online] [Google Scholar] ), in lambs (Hartley, 1952 Hartley, W. J. 1952. Aust. vet. J., 28: 169–169. [Crossref] [Google Scholar] ), and in pigs and dogs (Salisbury, 1954 Salisbury, R. M. 1954. Roy. san. Inst. J., 15: 1–1. [Google Scholar] ). The only other species which has seemed to be of any importance is L. hyos, which is confined mainly to pigs.
