Abstract
Of 17 patients with aregenerative anemia 13 had hypersideremia and 14 low unsaturated Fe binding capacity [UIBC]. The more depressed erythropoiesis was, the higher was the serum Fe and the lower the UIBC. The average Fe absorption was significantly lower in patients with aregenerative anemia than in normal individuals. The most anemic patients absorbed more than those with less anemia and the more transfusions the patients had received, the less Fe they absorbed. These relations were not statistically significant. Although large amounts of Fe had been given to these patients in the form of transfusions, and although they had hypersideremia and, often, increased Fe amounts in the bone marrow, the rate of Fe excretion was not increased. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
