Abstract
It must be considered a fact that adrenocortical steroids contribute to the development of arteriosclerosis in animals and in humans. The present investigation shows that hydrocortisone administered intravenously to healthy young humans increases the capillary filtration rate. Previously it has been shown mat steroids interfere with the oxidative metabolism of tissues. Both observations support the filtration theory, in which filtration of lipid-containing plasma through the capillary wall is considered to be the most important factor in the development of arteriosclerosis. Keywords
