Treatment of Magnesium Deficiency After Intestinal Bypass for Obesity

Abstract
The retention of magnesium following an intravenous magnesium load was studied in 10 patients before and after oral treatment with magnesium chloride during 3 months. The high magnesium retention before treatment (44 ± 8%) decreased significantly after 3 months (to 23 ± 14%), indicating a magnesium deficiency which was corrected by oral administration of magnesium solution.
