Abstract
This paper deals with the description of a simplified procedure for the rapid detection of samples of serum that contain artifactually high concentrations of iodine. These samples can then be eliminated as a source of cross -contamination in the muffle furnace during the dry-ash method. The technic does not require additional serum or special preparation of the sample of serum. In addition, it does not require the preparation of any special reagents, other than those ordinarily used in the dry-ash procedure. As a result of using this technic to isolate sameples of serum with high content of iodine, the staff in our laboratory nas experienced no evidence of cross-contamination in more than 2300 determinations of PBI by means of the dry-ash method. Keywords
