Use of Stream Chemistry to Estimate Hydrologic Parameters

Abstract
Measured ion concentrations and streamflows in the Housatonic basin in Connecticut conform well to simple functional relationships. These relationships can be exploited to describe the relative magnitudes of direct and indirect runoff and thereby reduce the uncertainty in hydrologic model parameters. Independent parameter estimates derived from data on stream chemistry allow the use of richer models than would be possible with precipitation and streamflow values alone.Keywords
