Abstract
In order to give perspective to the present status of the development of the art, the author presents a factual record of experience with austenitic, heavy-wall, steel piping materials, some of which have been in service since 1948, at elevated steam conditions, in the electric generating stations of Public Service Electric and Gas Company in New Jersey. He describes some of the welding techniques which have been developed over this period and points out some of the areas in which there is need of further development.
