Abstract
The author examines some of the ways that speech signals, subjected to certain degradations (e.g. additive noise, interfering speakers, bandlimiting, single-channel data), can be processed to increase the likelihood of being correctly understood. He concentrates on applications that involve monaural listening. He treats spectral and time-domain subtraction techniques, methods involving fundamental frequency tracking, and enhancement by resynthesis.Keywords
