Abstract
As the result of the restructuring and decentralisation of the administration of St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, I was Clinical Chief of a pilot “institute” for three years operating within a “patient‐focused model” in hospital management. By the end of the trial, we had improved performance despite reductions in hospital and unit budgets.Keywords
