Abstract
Three species of sooty moulds with tapering hyphae are included in a new form genus, Capnocybe — Capnocybe fraserae n. sp. (type sp.), C. novaezelandiae n. sp., from New Zealand, and C. spongiosa (Hoerl) comb. nov. (syn. Arthrobotryum spongiosum Hoerl) from North America, Corsica, and Portugal. In this form genus the sporogenous cells are sympodulae, borne on synnematous conidiophores. A distinctive phialide slate produced by the three species is assigned to a new form genus, Capnophialophora, type sp. Capnophialophora fraserae n. sp. The probable pcrithecial state of Capnocybe fraserae is described as Limacinia fraserae n. sp. and the identity of the type spccics of Limacinia Neger, L. fernandeziana Neger, is discussed. Keywords
