Abstract
To the Editor: In 1980 303 cases of malaria were reported in American travelers — the greatest annual number of malaria infections in United States civilians recorded in the past 15 years. This increase undoubtedly reflects the larger number of Americans traveling abroad each year and underscores the need to provide accurate information about malaria prophylaxis to health professionals and the public.Fansidar (sulfadoxine–pyrimethamine), a drug that has been widely used overseas for chemoprophylaxis against malaria, has recently become available in the United States.
