Tympanoplasty in Children

Abstract
Cholesteatoma was encountered in 58% of children with otitis media chronica in our material. Radial removal of the cholesteatoma is often connected with considerable difficulties as the result of extensive pneumatization. The first duty of the operator is to spare the structures of the middle ear. Before performing tympanoplasty, the large postoperative cavity must be healed, for which the two-stage procedure may be necessary. The tympanic membrane, if present, constitutes very suitable material for creation of the little middle ear. The tympanoplasty in children is more difficult and the results are not as good as in adults.
