Abstract
The techniques which have been used to measure properties of the plasma produced by high energy injection into a magnetic mirror have been described. The results obtained have been illustrative of gas breakup; however, the same methods have been used unaltered to measure the energy dispersion and stability with a magnetically confined high density arc as the breakup mechanism. The application of these techniques has permitted a study of the plasma in DCX-1, a task complicated by the extremely hot nature of such matter and by the necessity for studying this state of matter in such a way as to extract information concerning its properties without altering these properties by the method of measurement.Keywords
