Abstract
Summary.: A method is described for the feeding of Myzus persicae on media of which one constituent is a radioactive indicator containing polonium. The results show that Myzus picks up the indicator from the medium and transmits it to a leaf on which it is subsequently fed. The volumes imbibed are of the same order of magnitude as those imbibed by aphids under natural feeding conditions. A constant proportion of the amount imbibed is transferred to the leaf, from which it is deduced that the polonium is transmitted through the bodies of the aphids and not on the outsides of the stylets. Evidence is given to show that the virus probably behaves in the same way as the polonium.
