Abstract
Trisporic acid, the sex hormone of the Mucorales, elicits the formation of zygophores in (+) and (—) mycelia of Mucor mucedo . It can diffuse through the medium, from its site of synthesis, to affect mycelium a considerable distance away. There is no evidence for its translocation through hyphae. It causes an increase in content of (3-carotene and ergosterol in recipient mycelium, and such increases are also observed during matingKeywords
