Abstract
A new TLC and HPLC [high performance liquid chromatography] method for the detection and estimation of the main alkaloids from Symphytum officinale roots, Symphytine, Echimidine, Lycopsamine and Acetyllycopsamine in their genuine N-oxide form is described. The method provides characteristic fingerprints for the constituents of the Symphytum drugs of different origin and varying harvest seasons.
