An extreme water exchange rate: the europium(II) aqua ion

Abstract
The rate of water exchange at the europium(II) aqua ion is measured by a combined variable-temperature 17O NMR and EPR study; it is the fastest aqua exchange rate ever directly measured by magnetic resonance for a non Jahn–Teller ion, 3.5 × 109 s 1 at 25 °C.
