Abstract
In 3 strains of C. globosum studied. Ca was required for the normal formation of perithecia, the opt. concn. being 10 ppm. At high concns. Ca was inhibitory. Spectrographic analysis of jute extract, which had been shown previously to stimulate growth and perithecia formation,'' showed other trace elements as well as Ca. None of these were effective. The effect of Ca could be partially duplicated with Ba or Sr. On the fruiting mechanism the effect of Ca was similar to that of the ash of jute extract. However, in combination with other vitamins known to be present in jute extract, Ca could not replace jute extract in its effect on vegetative growth. Keywords
