Abstract
Onion root tips were treated with sodium fluoride solution of 1 x 10-2M. Treatment periods ranged from 2 to 18 hrs. with 2 hr. increments and from 24 hrs. to 48 with 6 hr. increments; a treatment of 60 hrs. was also conducted. Cytological analyses of root tip chromosomes indicated a positive correlation between frequency of chromosomal aberrations and treatment duration. Some root tip cells had only a single bridge; others had 2 or more. Fragments without the formation of chromosomal bridges were frequent in all the treatments. The formation of anaphase bridges resulted from the development of dicentric chromosomes. Tetraploid nuclei and multipolar ana phases were also observed. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
