Abstract
Some properties of betaine compounds are reviewed mostly from a phenomenological point of view. Order parameters of various phase transitions, related changes of symmetries, anomalies of macroscopic properties, spontaneous quantities and domains are discussed. A two-soft-mode model is proposed for description of peculiar properties of betaine calcium chloride dihydrate. Keywords
