Abstract
A formal treatment is proposed for measuring the light flux intercepted by single plants, either within a stand or as isolated plants. Methods are suggested for quantifying the light intercepting capacity of the plant and its light intercepting efficiency per unit leaf area, and for analysing the control of this efficiency by between-plant shading within the stand, by within-plant shading, by leaf attitudes and by leaf transmittance. Keywords
