Abstract
By any definition, ecology is as primary as any of the biological disciplines with other views or at other levels. But uniquely, ecology is the realm of the higher levels, the total system view; it is pervasive and illuminates all of biology; it provides a framework for asking the important questions at other levels. Lack of opportunity to study this pervasive discipline is a deprivation. Keywords
