Abstract
A model for turbulent flow is invoked to explain the variation in particle dimension with stirring rate for Al-Cu alloys solidified under violent agitation. Crystal multiplication is explained by a bending, recrystallization, and boundary melting mechanism which is related to the hydrodynamics of the turbulent regime. Keywords
