Abstract
The operating characteristics of high power relativistic magnetron injection guns (MIGs) are studied theoretically. A set of analytic expressions based on adiabatic approximations for a coaxial diode is used to identify feasible design regions in parameter space. Particle simulations are then used to optimize particular designs. Results for a µs, 100 MW, 500 kV MIG, designed for an X-band gyroklystron, are critically examined. Keywords
