A Comparison of Methods for Estimating Populations of Spittlebug Nymphs in Alfalfa1

Abstract
Estimates as shown by counts of stems infested with spittle masses and by counts of nymphs per stem indicated that the latter method is the more accurate and uniformly shows a higher degree of control than the former, which gives a conservative estimate of effectiveness of treatments but is more practical in field work.
