Abstract
Monte Carlo simulations of ultrathin magnetic films show that these systems exhibit three distinct phases. Intermediate between the striped phase at low temperatures and the fully disordered phase at high temperatures is a phase with no long range order. In this intermediate phase, irregular but well-defined magnetic domains exist. These show a striking resemblance to the domains observed in experimental studies. Keywords
