Abstract
The severity of desert climatic conditions, the necessity for absolute dependability and for minimum maintenance, and the high voltage to be handled, required departures from established practice in the design of the enormous disconnecting switches for the 287.5 kv transmission lines from Boulder Dam to Los Angeles. This equipment and the considerations entering into its design are described here. Keywords
