Abstract
Australian wine producers, not constrained by European‐style appellation systems, have moved to large‐scale plantings starting in the boom period of 1965–75. Australians regard climate as having a greater influence on wine than soil. This paper reviews current Australian thinking on the importance of climate and soil in winemaking.Keywords
