Abstract
The expression of the apolipoprotein (apo) E and C-l genes in different tissues is determined by distinct regulatory elements that are distributed upstream and downstream of these genes, including a common hepatic control region that is located 18 kb downstream of the apoE gene promoter. The hepatic control region contains all of the sequences needed to direct expression to the liver, but it requires the presence of a non-specific regulatory element in the proximal promoter of the apoE gene for its action. Keywords
