Abstract
Rubbing is a simple but reliable method used to homogeneously align liquid crystal. It is widely used in the actual production of liquid crystal displays. However, this technology is mainly based on experience, and the relationship between rubbing strength and surface anchoring strength has not been clarified. Therefore, the authors have studied the relationship between the surface anchoring strength and the rubbing strength parameter L which is defined by the authors. Consequently, it has been determined that the anchoring strength is proportional to L, and that the memory effect of the surface orientation exists when there is weak anchoring strength. Keywords
