ANALYSIS OF GASES IN BLOOD WITH THE MASS SPECTROMETER. III. A METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF NITROUS OXIDE IN BLOOD

Abstract
N2O was partially extracted from the blood sample by equilibrating with a known quantity of air at constant temps. A sample of the gas phase was then analyzed on a mass spectrometer and the ratio of O (from the air) to N2O obtained. The N2O content of the blood was hence arrived at by substituting into a formula. The accuracy of the results was checked by separate and combined estimations of the ether and N2O in a mixture of N2O and ether.
