Abstract
The procedures and vitamin-supplemented medium (SM-1) used for the "in vitro" cultivation of Oesophagostomum radiatum (Douvres, F. W., J. Parasit., 1962) have been employed to culture Stephanurus dentatus, a nematode parasite of swine. S. dentatus was also cultured in 3 modifications formulated by the following additions to SM-1: double amounts of swine liver extract and bovine serum (SM-26), a double amount of autoclaved swine liver extract (SM-27), and a double amount of swine liver extract (SM-29). Other media ingredients were not adjusted to compensate for dilution by the additions. S. dentatus advanced to the 4th-stage by the 15th day in culture. Survival, condition, and yields of this stage were graded as excellent in the four media; however, the yields appeared to be best in SM-26.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
