Abstract
Starvation for 48 hours followed by refeeding for 24 hours increased the incorporation of several C14-amino acids into the protein of isolated diaphragm. Amino acid incorporation was increased by refeeding independent of the nature of the diet, but a high carbohydrate diet produced the greatest increase. The adaptive change in protein synthesis occurred in the absence of the anterior pituitary and its hormones.Keywords
