Abstract
A comparative morphological study of all external body parts of most of the genera and spp. was made. Sternal thoracic, wing, labial, and [male] genital features of evolutionary and differentiating significance were discovered. The Capniidae seem to be most closely related to the Leuctridae, the genus Capnioneura being very much like Paraleuctra and Megaleuctra especially in genitalic features. Generic and specific taxonomy also is reviewed and some new contributions made. The following taxonomic changes have been made: Capnura synonymized under Capnia, Neocapniella under Capniella Klp., Capniella Sahlberg (nomen nudum) under Capnopsis PARACAPNIA including the species Capnia opis and P curvata (genotype). A list of all described species of Capniidae, with those studied indicated, as well as figures of all significant morphological and relevant taxonomic features are included.
