Intensivmedizinische Aspekte der fäkalen Peritonitis

Abstract
Aspects of Intensive Care Therapy in Patients with Fecal Peritonitis Local fecal peritonitis may have severe systemic implications associated with high mortality. Progress has been achieved by a better understanding of the pathogenesis of peritonitis and by the combination of surgical, antibiotic and intensive care therapy. Surgery aims at cleaning and eliminating the abdominal infectious focus, antibiotics control the bacteria locally and systemically, and intensive care therapy supports other vital organ functions of the patient. Clinical scoring systems proved to be useful in characterizing patients for clinical studies, but they are less helpful in evaluating the clinical course and the prognosis of an individual patient. Decision making for surgery is still difficult and requires extensive clinical experience.
