Abstract
Greater competition and forthcoming legislation will bring about major changes in the traditional role of building society managers. This will undoubtedly have implications for recruitment and promotion patterns and will also require societies to devote a major effort to management development. Indeed, most of the larger societies have already begun to implement changes in these areas.Keywords
