Abstract
A theoretical relation due to Glyde is used to systematically analyse the published activation energies for self-diffusion in compounds with spinel structure. It is shown that the migration routes taken by several different diffusing species in a range of such compounds are predominantly those which would be expected if the ions behaved as hard spheres. The model can be used to estimate the formation and migration energies for both cation and anion vacancies in spinels. Keywords
