Abstract
The principal tertiary base in Skimmia japonica Thunb. is the furanoquinoline alkaloid, dictamnine, but skimmianine and eduline are also present. A new quaternary alkaloid, (+)-platydesminium salt, has been identified. The structure of edulinine has been confirmed by synthesis. Keywords
