Abstract
Direct smear examination of selected particles from sputums submitted for examination for tubercle bacilli gave more positive results than 3 NaOH concn. methods, even when the latter were made with the best technique yet devised. Of 716 specimens, 28.5% were positive by both methods, 5% gave positive results only with direct smears, 1.1% were positive only by concn. and 65.4% were negative by both methods. Keywords
