Abstract
The synthetic (Akaganeite) was dehydrated at 300°–500°C for 1–20h under vacuum of 10−3 and 10−5 torr. The magnetic properties of the obtained dehydration products have been measured for saturation magnetization , residual magnetization , and coercive force . and were proportional to the chemically analyzed Fe2+ content in the samples. With reference to the x‐ray diffraction results, it was found that the dehydrated products of in vacuo are the oxides in the series containing different amounts of Fe2+ in the range 1–3 mmol g−1, and with a certain amount of . The oxidation of the dehydrated in air at 225°C for 20h gave oxides of the series, which are entirely different in magnetic properties but almost similar in x‐ray reflections in comparison with those of the dehydrated . The variations of and the reduced remanence with the Fe2+ content are also discussed. Keywords
