Abstract
A technique based on flash photolysis of CO2 followed by chemiluminescent recombination of CO and O has been used to measure the rate of the over‐all recombination reaction CO(1Σ+) + O(3P) + M → CO2 + M. At 296 °K, the following third‐order rate coefficient for M = CO2 was obtained: kCO2 = 5.4 ± 0.7 × 10−36 cm6 molecule−2 · sec−1. Values for M = CO and AR are derived in which kCO = 4.5 ± 1.0 × 10−36 cm6 molecule−2 · sec−1 and kAr = 9.8 ± 2.0 × 10−36 cm6 molecule−2 · sec−1.Keywords
