From the author’s experience as a sister on an orthopaedic ward, it seemed that many patients prescribed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) were not aware of the reasons for continuing the therapy in the longer term, and therefore, often stopped taking the treatment prematurely, before osteoporosis was likely to have been prevented
