Abstract
While there has been a growing interest in obtaining and using diagnostic information in the evaluation of youngsters with handicapping conditions, relatively little attention has been paid to the interpretation of this information in making decisions. This paper reviews measures of decision making frequently applied within special education, and presents the rationale and procedure for applying receiver-operating-characteristic analysis to the field of special education. Implications for screening and diagnosis are discussed.
