Abstract
A dynamic model based on species-shift theory in activated sludge is proposed for predicting the response of mixed-culture processes to dynamic organic loadings. Experimental data were collected to verify the model. The closeness between the experimental results and the model prediction indicates strongly that this model has potential in future studies of mixed-microbial cultures to dynamic loadings and in the design of wastewater-treatment processes uning completely mixed-activated sludge process. The minimal laboratory experiment required to implement this model further increases its usefulness.Keywords
