Abstract
A new quantum mechanical method for calculating the miniband structure of lateral surface superlattices in a perpendicular magnetic field is developed. The Schrodinger equation is solved via expansion in a basis that is well adapted both to the translational symmetry of the problem and the magnetic field. The approach is quite similar to the nearly-free-electron approximation in the zero-field case and is capable of dealing with arbitrary potential shapes. Keywords
