Testing a New Disease-Specific Health Locus of Control Scale Among Cancer and Aplastic Anemia Patients

Abstract
This study examined the psychometric properties of a disease-specific health locus of control scale developed by K. Wallston (1988). Participants in the study were individuals afflicted with either cancer or aplastic anemia Factor structure of a modified version of the scale appeared relatively stable across the two diseased samples. Comparisons were made with a general health locus of control measure. Although the association between the two measures seemed reasonably strong, further analysis demonstrated that the two measures tended to classify individuals differently according to control orientation.
