Effect of Sympathectomy and Vagotomy on the Inhibition by Insulin of Histamine-Induced Secretion in Separated (Heidenhain) Canine Pouches

Abstract
The inhibitory effect of insulin on histamine-induced gastric secretion was confirmed in dogs with separated gastric pouches. The possible role of the nerve supply to the gastric mucosa in the production of this inhibition was studied by tests utilizing pouches in various stages of denervation. Apparently the inhibition of histamine-induced gastric secretion by insulin is not dependent on the vagal or sympathetic nerve supply to the stomach but is directly induced by the decreased concn. of sugar in the blood caused by the admn. of insulin.
