Abstract
Some conclusions concerning the modalities of raw material exploitation by Acheulian man in Africa follow on from investigation of the existing relationship beteween three observable criteria : the stages of manufacture under which the raw material is brought onto the site, the distance of procurement, and the technical finalities. Homo erectus attitude towards raw material is examined both in terms of Homo erectus organizational capacities and degree of anticipation, and in terms of territorial exploitation : although a measure of foresight - evinced by the modalities of raw material exploitation - certainly implies planning depth, there is no evidence of curation; moreover, the lithic procurement patterns, as well as the nature of the sites, could possibly bear witness to periodic territorial shifts as opposed to high residential mobility over short distances.La mise en relation de trois critères observables - mode d'introduction des matériaux lithiques, distance de circulation, finalités - a permis de cerner les modalités d'exploitation des matières premières dans l'Acheuléen d'Afrique. Celles-ci ont été interprétées en termes de d'organisation et d'anticipation, en termes de comportement au sein du territoire : il est apparu qu'à l'Acheuléen, s'il existe bien une anticipation besoins et donc une profondeur temporelle, un comportement de maintenance ne s'est pas encore développé ; par ailleurs, la configuration générale des classes d'approvisionnement en matériaux lithiques, ainsi que la nature des sites, conduit à envisager l'éventualité d'un déplacement périodique du territoire exploité, plutôt que l'existence d'une forte mobilité résidentielle sur de courtes distances.Féblot-Augustins Jehanne.
